Lago Calima: Cali's Watersport Paradise
Lago Calima sits at 1,500 meters in the Valle del Cauca, roughly 2 hours from Cali. The reservoir's consistent thermal winds make it Colombia's premier kitesurfing and windsurfing destination. Fincas here range from basic lakeside cabins ($40–70/night) to luxury estates with boat docks and panoramic sunset views ($180–400/night).
The lake is especially popular June through August when wind conditions peak. Kitesurfing schools line the shore, and equipment rental runs about COP 150,000–250,000/day ($41–68). Beyond watersports, the area offers hiking, mountain biking, and the Calima archaeological museum showcasing pre-Columbian artifacts from the Calima civilization.
