Before You Send a Finca Deposit: 12 Questions to Get Answered in Writing
A booking-safety checklist covering identity, cancellation, capacity and what the payment actually reserves. The goal is not to find a “perfect” property. It is to turn a vague search into things you can actually verify before committing money or time.
Use this as a structured conversation. Ask for concrete answers, keep important terms in writing, and separate true requirements from nice-to-haves.
Start with the decision, not the photos
Photos are useful for eliminating options, but they rarely answer the questions that determine whether a place works in real life. Before comparing listings, define what must be true for the option to make sense.
- legal or business name receiving payment
- property address or verifiable location
- dates and check-in/check-out
- total price and balance schedule
- cancellation terms
- guest and visitor limits
- noise or event rules
- deposit or damage hold terms
- included services
- transport access
- contact on arrival
- written receipt or booking confirmation
Turn each point into something verifiable
Instead of asking whether a rental or finca is “good,” “quiet” or “close,” ask for observable details: times, quantities, rules, exact locations, who is responsible and what happens if plans change. When possible, confirm with live video, a location pin, written terms or another current piece of evidence.
Compare the cost of friction
A cheaper-looking option can be a worse value when it requires constant transportation, extra purchases, unclear rules or last-minute coordination. Total cost includes money, but also time and the risk that the property does not fit the trip or daily routine.
Mistakes worth avoiding
- sending to an unexplained third party
- paying before dates and property are identified
- relying on voice notes for cancellation terms
If an important answer is still vague, treat it as an open question rather than a promise. A strong choice is usually the one that leaves fewer material surprises after you pay.
